The competition is well and truly in Liverpool’s hands, and it would take a very disappointing run of form for Arsenal to catch the Reds now.

The two sides still have to face each other at Anfield, but Slot’s side could be crowned champions even before that game on 11 May.

That is looking even more likely now as one of Arsenal’s biggest attacking threats has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal lose their sixth-highest goal scorer

In what will be a massive blow to Mikel Arteta and the Gunners’ title hopes, Gabriel Magalhaes will miss the rest of the campaign after sustaining a hamstring injury against Fulham according to The Athletic.

The centre-half has scored five goals and provided a further three assists for Arsenal this season and has been a huge threat from set pieces in particular.

Arteta’s side have scored 11 of their 55 Premier League goals from set pieces this campaign, and the absence of Gabriel will certainly help teams defend against Arsenal in dead-ball situations.

Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all expected to be out of action for the rest of the season too, and Jurien Timber also left the field injured in the Fulham match.

Arsenal’s title hopes over

Although the Premier League title race isn’t mathematically over, Arsenal players will have lost some of their remaining hope seeing a first-team mainstay go down injured.

Liverpool have four matches remaining at Anfield, including the Arsenal game. If Slot’s side can win those four matches they will be crowned champions.

The Reds also have to play Fulham, relegation-bound Leicester City, Chelsea and Brighton away from home. Arne Slot will surely be confident that his team can manage 13 points from that run-in.

The earliest opportunity Liverpool will have to mathematically win the league comes before the Reds visit Leicester at the King Power Stadium on 20 April, but that would require Arsenal losing two and drawing one of their next three matches to Everton, Brentford and Ipswich. Upon Arsenal dropping points in the third match, the Reds would be crowned champions.

Arsenal can technically still win the league, but with Gabriel’s injury Liverpool’s 20th league title feels all but guaranteed.
