Liverpool fans have been handed an 'unprecedented' warning over FSG. We might not like what's to come.

Life under FSG - it's been a mixed bag. Liverpool are unquestionably better off than when they took over, for starters.

The Reds were in genuine danger under Tom Hicks and George Gillett, with administrators brought in to deal with the sale of the club. FSG, then New England Sports Investments, stepped up to grab a 'bargain'.

They did take a chance on the purchase. There's no question about that. But they backed themselves to turn Liverpool around and they've done just that. The Reds have gone on to win every single trophy since 2010, challenging for the biggest prizes again and again.

The 'question' is how much was down to them. Liverpool were on the right path financially quite quickly but floundered in the initial years.

Things didn't become consistent until Jurgen Klopp took over. Under the German, Liverpool built a team capable of winning the UEFA Champions League. They could have won it three times.

But was that Klopp or FSG? Will they be able to build an elite team without Klopp? We're about to find out, after all, as so many stars of the Klopp era are now very, very close to leaving Liverpool.

So with that in mind, a warning.

Liverpool fans given FSG warning

This wasn't painted as a warning to Liverpool but it is one - let's get that clear. FSG are currently under intense pressure in the United States because of their management of the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox needed help when John Henry and FSG bought them. They turned them into champions, winning Major League Baseball's World Series four times.

But they're now overseeing an incredible downfall. Heavy.com's Jay Pritchard, who covers the Red Sox, labels their 'free-fall' from the elite to 'mid-market purgatory' as 'unprecedented'.

Essentially, the Red Sox don't spend money on proven talent anymore. Instead, they put all their funding into developing talent.

They push how great their 'rookie development camp' is. There are countless 'attempts' at signing major players, only for absolutely none of them to get over the line.

Now they're left with a team that doesn't compete, despite constant suggestions from within the Red Sox that the plan it to compete at the top - for both the World Series and elite players.

FSG have overseen that fall from the top to the mediocre. Pritchard here calls out the press for pushing the 'we tried' agenda.

Like faithful scribes dutifully transcribing the team’s gospel, Boston’s tiny band of remaining beat writers turn every front-office whisper into headlines, every “almost” into action, and every “we tried” into triumph – their press badges might as well read “Red Sox PR.”

Doesn't that sound familiar? Doesn't this all sound familiar?

The focus on cheap young talent who could be good. The constant claims that Liverpool tried to sign the most exciting players around.

It's what the Red Sox have gone through over the last few years and it's exactly what Liverpool are going through now. We've just seen it with Khvicha Kvaratsklhelia.

Liverpool are about to build their next team. Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker are among those who could leave this summer.

But will they actually build a new great team? Or will we merely hear that they tried?

Red Sox fans will tell you there's no real question there.
