Liverpool FC News: FSG and LeBron James prepare MASSIVE offer for new team

Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group and basketball superstar LeBron James are ‘seriously considering’ putting together a massive bid for NBA team Boston Celtics. 

The Boston-based sports investment conglomerate controlled by John W. Henry have owned Liverpool since late 2010, when they took over from the disastrous partnership of George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Having steered Liverpool back towards success, FSG also sought investment in the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL team, which gave them ownership in two of the coveted ‘big four’ American sports leagues due to their initial ownership of baseball’s Boston Red Sox from 2001 onwards.

Shortly after FSG’s purchase of Liverpool, they also took sole ownership of LeBron James’ global image rights, for which James was given a small stake in the Reds given his support for them.

In 2021, James and his long-time business partner Maverick Carter were announced by FSG as having become partners, making the pair part-owners to all of FSG’s stable of investments, including Liverpool.

FSG SET FOR BOSTON CELTICS BID

It now looks like FSG and James are set to team up again as they attempt to acquire the legendary Boston Celtics NBA franchise, which has recently been put up for sale.

According to a report in the New York Post, James couldn’t be a part of the Celtics’ ownership now, but with the sale not closing until 2028, the 39 year-old will have surely retired by that time. 

James is currently starring for Team USA at the Olympics in Paris, having been one of the flag bearers in the opening ceremony.

On Thursday night he helped lead his nation to a comeback victory over Serbia to reach the gold medal match, scoring a triple-double in the process. Team USA will be playing host nation France on Saturday.
