Liverpool labelled just a 'side-hustle' for FSG

Liverpool have been labelled a 'side hustle' for FSG. Is that truly all the Reds are?

Boston Red Sox fans are not happy. FSG promised (albeit through the press) big moves in baseball's off-season as they wanted to build a team that could compete.

Free agency provides a chance to do just that - and the dreams were huge. FSG wanted to sign some of baseball's biggest stars for the Red Sox, including a potential record deal for Juan Soto.

That deal would have cost around £600m. That's the going rate for an elite free agent in MLB.

And FSG were in there and pushing. Talks went on for weeks. Then they failed.

Soto joined the New York Mets and the Red Sox have no star arrival. It's been a disaster and fans are not happy.

That includes being unhappy about their 'distraction' in the North West of England.

The Liverpool side-hustle

It's always interesting to see the perception over in the US about FSG. Especially as a lot of the time, they're dealing with exactly the same things that Liverpool are.

And this is one of those, too. FSG are trying to make big signings and then failing to do so. Liverpool have seen that happen again and again, particularly with their targets heading to Real Madrid.

But there's a notable feeling you can see over there that doesn't resonate with Liverpool. In one piece for Fansided, for instance, the Reds are referred to as a 'side hustle' and a 'distraction' for FSG.

It appears they view Liverpool as very much the second team in FSG's eyes. They're hoping the Reds are sidelined, essentially, so the entire focus of the ownership group can be on the Red Sox.

That, they seem to believe, is one reason the Red Sox haven't been massively successful: FSG are too invested in Liverpool.

In reality, we can't imagine FSG stop focusing heavily on Liverpool. They are, after all, the bigger team and the one with by far the greater potential as an asset.

We've never particularly viewed the Red Sox as a distraction, either. But should we?
