Liverpool owners FSG are looking to produce a record-breaking deal. It's one that could change everything.

Reports this week suggested that Liverpool owners FSG could be about to striker a massive deal. FSG are used to these deals, of course, as they own some of the biggest sport clubs on the planet.

Liverpool are the crown jewel in that, of course. The Boston Red Sox aren't far behind, however - they're one of the most storied franchises in US sports.

And NBC claimed this week that FSG want to add the Boston Celtics to that. The Celtics are the most successful NBA team in history and the reigning champions.

They're also up for sale and given the links to Boston, FSG make a natural buyer. Or at least, that's the angle.

It now appears that FSG aren't going to buy the Celtics. We're sure they've had a look - it would be mad not to - but reports suggest they're not inserting themselves into the bidding war.

Instead, they've got their eyes on an even bigger deal.

FSG eye record-breaking deal

The Liverpool Echo understands that the real plan at FSG is to win the rights to the planned NBA franchise in Las Vegas. The NBA are expected to announce a proper expansion to the league very shortly.

Las Vegas is heavily rumoured to be one of the cities getting a team. Seattle are expected to be another.

But it's the Vegas team that will be the biggest, despite all the history with the Seattle Supersonics. The potential for selling tickets to tourists is so enormous that any deal to earn the rights to the team is expected to be record-breaking.

Per Bloomberg, the total cost will approach $7bn as any buyer would need to help fund a stadium/arena. That fact that anyone would still be interested in the team should highlight just how profitable a Las Vegas NBA team could be.

The lack of any relegation in American sports makes their teams enormously valuable, despite the lack of global appeal like European football. It's essentially guaranteed value and rising ticket prices keep that value rising.

Las Vegas is seen as the place to have a team right now, sparking the NFL's Raiders franchise to move there. They recently got an NHL team, too, with the Golden Knights.

An Nba team is a natural next step - and FSG want to be a part of that. But can they afford to keep a hold of Liverpool, too?
