A number of former Liverpool stars have impressed since turning to management, with another ex-Red having secured a memorable promotion this weekend as his career begins to take off.

The likes of Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard are two of the more notable Liverpool players to have made a name for themselves in the dugout, with the former even favoured as Jurgen Klopp's successor before he committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Even some of the lesser known names of the 21st century such as Albert Riera and Alberto Aquilani have forged careers for themselves as a coach, with the likes of Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez having proved good mentors during their time at Anfield.

But there is yet another former Red who is finding his feet on the touchline, with fan favourite Dirk Kuyt having secured a significant promotion with his new club on Sunday.

DIRK KUYT EARNS PROMOTION WITH BELGIAN SIDE

Kuyt's coaching career actually got off to a difficult start when he was appointed manager of Dutch side ADO Den Haag in 2022. He lasted just under six months there before getting the sack following a poor run of results.

However, the 43-year-old took on a new challenge at the end of last year, signing up with Belgian second division side Beerschot FC in December 2023.

Kuyt has only been there for a little over four months but has already guided the Antwerp-based club to promotion back to the Jupiler Pro League following a 2-1 victory over KV Oostende on Sunday.

Beerschot look set to win the title as they currently sit five points clear at the top of the table with just two games to play, but they are now guaranteed not to finish lower than second, thus securing them automatic promotion.

The Belgian side have lost just two games since Kuyt's arrival and will now return to the top tier for the first time since the 2021/22 campaign. They can secure the league title when they face SK Beveren this coming Sunday.

Kuyt's contract expires at the end of the current campaign but the Dutchman has hinted that he is keen to extend his stay with Beerschot should he be offered a new deal.
