Former Liverpool defender identifies Bundesliga ace as DREAM Mohamed Salah heir

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has named the young star he would choose to inherit Mohamed Salah's throne at Anfield.

Salah remains one of Liverpool's most important players despite now reaching 32 years of age and he exemplified that with 25 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season.

However, the Egyptian's contract with the Reds expires in 2025 and there have been no reliable reports of positive discussions regarding a new deal.

While Salah has more or less confirmed that he will be at Liverpool for the 2024/25 season, he continues to be linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of when he goes, Salah needs an heir. But replacing a player with 211 goals in 389 appearances for the Reds promises to be extremely difficult - if not impossible.

JAMAL MUSIALA TIPPED AS DREAM MO SALAH REPLACEMENT

Speaking with BetVictor (via DAZN) about Salah and his future, former Red Warnock revealed that he would see love to see Bayern Munich dynamo Jamal Musiala take over from Liverpool's No. 11.

"If you’re going to bring someone into the club to replace Salah, it would have to be someone who isn’t just a better player, but someone who is commercially viable enough to add to the Liverpool brand in a similar way Salah did," suggested Warnock.

"We just look at Salah as an individual on the pitch, but it’s the worldwide appeal that he brings to Liverpool and how he puts the club on the map in Africa which needs to be considered. We have no idea how much money that brings in.

"With that in mind, a player that I’m always off my seat watching is Jamal Musiala. I absolutely love watching him. I don’t know if Bayern Munich would be willing to sell him, but If Liverpool are talking about players who can add value to the team to replace Salah, he’s one of those players."

JAMAL MUSIALA LINKED WITH REDS

Musiala has been linked with the Reds previously, although he doesn't appear to be on the move in the near future.

Also, he certainly wouldn't be an orthodox replacement for Salah. First and foremost, they play different positions.

The 21-year-old German, who produced 20 goal contributions for Die Roten last season, typically operates as an attacking midfielder, although he is capable of playing in wide areas.

A right-footer, Musiala is similarly gifted with the ball at his feet, able to weave in and out of players at will. The youngster's technical ability is second to none among his age group.

However, while Musiala would be a sensational (and expensive) addition to Liverpool's squad, he would not be an ideal successor to Salah.
