One Liverpool attacker made an outrageous decision against Aston Villa with which he inevitably embarrassed himself.

Going to Villa Park was never going to be an easy trip for the Reds. It's a ground where Liverpool often have to grind out results, and sometimes even face heavy defeats.

But on Wednesday night Arne Slot's side only had themselves to blame. They were the better side for much of the game and had created enough chances to win the game twice over.

Darwin Nunez skied the ball over the bar when he had the chance to bury it into the back of the net from an open goal, meanwhile another Liverpool attacker made an equally poor decision earlier in the first half.

And subsequently embarrassed himself.

Diogo Jota's poor decision against Aston Villa

This was an Aston Villa side lining up with a makeshift defence and there for the taking. Liverpool should have feasted on the amount errors and mistakes Villa made.

Sometimes it was too easy for the Reds to go through.

That was the case early on in the first half when Diogo Jota waltzed into the penalty area and had a golden chance to bury the ball into the back of the net.

Instead, the Portuguese skied his effort high and wide, not even troubling Emiliano Martínez in between the sticks.

It was a chance Jota should have scored and that miss Liverpool will rue as match as Nunez's effort over the bar if the Reds miss out on the league title come the end of the season.

The Daily Express highlighted Jota's performance in their player ratings, giving him a generous 6/10 but calling him out for his embarrassing misses.

'Diogo Jota: 6,' the article wrote.

'Some good and some bad from the Portuguese. Andres Garcia's backwards pass fell straight to him and he kept his cool to set up Salah's opener. But wasted some half-chances and embarrassingly miscued a one-on-one.'

You can't disagree too much with that assessment, Jota should have scored the one-on-one situation. The fact that he didn't cost Liverpool the game in the end, and he needs to be a lot better going forward.

But based on that performance, as Anfield Watch revealed exclusively, it's no surprise Liverpool are open to letting Jota go in the summer transfer window.
