Luis Diaz cut the ball back to Dominik Szoboszlai for the opener in the 11th minute before Mohamed Salah was able to do the same for Alexis Mac Allister from the other side of the pitch to double the lead after 63 minutes.

Liverpool dominated possession, had 12 shots and 3 on target and prevented Newcastle from having a single shot on target.

A performance like this on 16 March at Wembley will guarantee Liverpool return to Anfield with the first piece of silverware in the Arne Slot era.

Salah and Diaz run riot as Szoboszlai stars

Although neither managed to get on the scoresheet, it was Salah and Diaz that stole the show against Newcastle. The Egyptian King also came close to providing a second assist with an outside of the boot cross that Diaz just poked wide.

Both rated 9/10 by The Express, Diaz created five chances and Salah created three to make sure Liverpool took the opportunity to extend their Premier League lead.

Salah’s Premier League assist total rises to 17, seven more than any other player and only three away from the League record of 20 held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Another goal and another brilliant performance, Szoboszlai is finally delivering for the Reds. An 89% pass completion rate, two chances created, three shots and a goal saw the Hungarian named TNT Man of the Match.

Despite his dominant performance, Szoboszlai was only awarded an 8/10 rating by The Express who rightly claim the Hungarian has "come alive in the No. 10 role in recent weeks". Liverpool fans will be delighted if he can continue to perform at this level.
