Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for Hungary on Monday night - and it was exactly the kind of goal Arne Slot wants to see at Liverpool.

Arne Slot made it perfectly clear last month: he wants to see Dominik Szoboszlai score more goals. The Liverpool boss set his no.8 the task as he continues to build his side at Anfield.

"I think something that we have to work on with him is that he’s also even more involved in scoring goals and creating chances for us," said Slot, per the Metro.

"Last season he scored three [in the league] if I remember correctly and for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool his numbers need to go up.

"But I’m really happy with the way he’s done until now and I’m 100 per cent sure that if he plays in a team with so much quality around him, with the quality he has he will in the end score more goals for us as well."

Well, with that in mind, the Liverpool boss will love what he saw from Szoboszlai on Monday night.

Dominik Szoboszlai scores for Hungary

Szoboszlai is the star for Hungary, of course, and he delivered on that front against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UEFA Nations League. The Hungarian captain burst through the Bosnian back line with a superb off-the-ball run, getting beyond all the defenders and onto a through ball in the box.

A two-touch finish did the job as Szoboszlai controlled with one foot and slid the ball into the far corner with the other. Brilliant.

And this is exactly what Arne Slot wants from Szoboszlai. It's not so much that he scored, nor that he finished so well - it's getting into a position like that.

Szoboszlai is a fast and powerful player, after all. His runs from deep naturally trouble defenders as the moment he's got some acceleration on them, they're not going to catch him. It's an incredibly dangerous skill in Slot's system, too, as he wants players bursting forward en masse, pulling defences apart.

That rapid counter-attack is the hallmark of his team and Szoboszlai is perfect for it in the no.10 position. He's allowed to drift into space away from defenders, make runs in behind, and offer an outlet that defenders can't easily contend with.

Unfortunately, he's not doing it often enough in a Liverpool shirt. This goal for Hungary is the ideal example of what we hope is to come, though - Slot will certainly be smiling.
