Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai will play an interesting role at Euro 204 this summer. It’s one that will have Arne Slot watching closely.

Hungary boss Marco Rossi talked about his side's style of play this week, ahead of their Euro 2024 campaign. It's a campaign that will be led by captain Dominik Szoboszlai, of course.

Szoboszlai signed for Liverpool last summer - £60m made that happen - and started incredibly brightly for the Reds. However, his season petered out and he struggled to impact games by the end.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp eventually left him out of the starting XI with some consistency. That didn't feel possible in late 2023.

The hope for Hungary will be that Szoboszlai simply got extra rest. They'll also hope, however, that a different role for the 23-year-old helps him recover his best form.

Rossi discussed that role this week, as relayed by Jamie Hamilton on X.

"We are playing a kind of football that is less positional and more relational, and Dominik [Szoboszlai] is a player, together with others, who is free to go where he feels he can go…and this gives him more responsibility…"

That kind of free-role - not something that's too common in this day and age - could well catch the eye of Arne Slot this summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai - season 2

Liverpool will undergo changes this summer as Slot takes over. The Dutchman, for one, hasn't been known to play the 4-3-3 system that Klopp did across his entire Anfield tenure.

The biggest change will likely come in midfield. Slot likes to play with two sitting players and an attacking midfielder - and the latter is the role Szoboszlai will have his eyes on.

Thus Slot will have his eyes on Szoboszlai this summer as he tries to impact a major tournament in a very creative, free role. If he thrives, it could well push him to the forefront at Liverpool going into the season.
