Liverpool FC News: Reds great Dirk Kuyt wants to buy English football club

Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt is looking to buy an English football club along with fellow legends Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson and Ronald Koeman.

Ex-Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt is part of a group attempting to buy an English football club. That's according to football agent Rob Jansen.

Jansen explained the situation to the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast, with Kuyt joining up with some other footballing legends in the proposal.

Kuyt and co target English club

"We are in the process of buying a club in England," said Jansen. "I'm not allowed to say which club yet.

"I can say which group we will do it with. Ronald Koeman, Dennis Bergkamp, ​​Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt.

"We are now looking at League Two or League One. We do this with some people around us and we also have the financiers. It doesn't have to be in London."

It appears that the group of players would be heavily involved, with Larsson earmarked to manage the team. Bergkamp would set up the club's academy, while Koeman would also be involved. There's no mention of Kuyt's contribution, however.

"The plan is to manage the football club in the broadest sense of the word," explained Jansen. "So, the way we think it should be.

"Training, hospitality, merchandising, marketing, everything. We have a group, and maybe one or two more will join.

"The names I mention will also do a certain job within the club. Henrik Larsson would like to become a head coach. Bergkamp will set up the academy. And Koeman also comes over to do his things."

So Kuyt's role is unclear, but he's been trying his hand at management since retiring as a player. A spell with ADO Den Haag failed, but the Dutchman is succeeding with Beerschot this season. The club sit at the top of the Belgian Second Division.

An interesting one, then, that could see a series of respected names run a lower-league English side. A unique project, on the face of it.
