Liverpool FC News: Diogo Jota's one-word post sparks excitement among fans

Diogo Jota is officially back... and not a moment too soon.

Liverpool's Portuguese slotter has not been seen on a football pitch since 17 February when he suffered a knee injury in the 4-1 away win over Brentford.

Jota got the assist for Darwin Nuñez's opener but was later stretchered from the field after Christian Norgaard landed on his knee following an aerial challenge.

The forward has missed 13 games with ligament damage at a key juncture in the season.

Despite his extended absence Jota remains Liverpool's third-top scorer with 14 goals (nine in the Premier League), behind only Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.

Perhaps the club's most clinical finisher, Jota's ability in and around the penalty area has been missed in several big games, not least the Premier League draws with Manchester City and Manchester United in which the Reds' failed to win despite outperforming their opponents on xG.

The 27-year-old also topped an Anfield Watch poll asking fans which injured player they are most excited to see return ahead of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker.

Well, the wait to see Jota again is almost over, with the former Wolves man now officially back in team training.

Following Jurgen Klopp's confirmation that his number 20 was ready to rejoin his teammates this week after stepping up his recovery, Jota was pictured in team training on Tuesday along with fellow returning stars Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Stefan Bajcetic.

Marking his return to action, Jota posted images from the session to his social media accounts along with the single-word caption: "Back".

The post sparked excitement online among Liverpool fans eagerly awaiting his comeback.

When could Jota return for Liverpool?

Just when Jota will be deemed fit to re-enter the field of play is another matter, but the signs are that his comeback is now imminent.

Liverpool's next game and the forward's first opportunity to be included in a matchday squad for the first time since February comes against Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-final first leg at Anfield on Thursday night.

However, perhaps a more likely opportunity for minutes will be the home Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Following this weekend, the Reds' packed schedule continues with the away leg against Atalanta on Thursday 18 April and a trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham the following Sunday.
