It is expected Al Hilal will return with another offer as the Saudi club look to reinforce their options ahead of the Club World Cup in the summer where they expected to be a serious contender.
Reuniting Nunez with his former boss, Jorge Jesus, is a top priority for Al Hilal but it remains to be seen just how determined the club is to get a deal over the line.
What is clear is that Nune's future is over at Liverpool. But the Reds won't mind because they already have a replacement in place.
Why Jayden Danns is ready to replace Darwin Nunez
So if Nunez leaves do Liverpool need to replace him? The answer is yes and no. Of course in the long-term Liverpool will need to add another reinforcement to Arne Slot's attack.
But the January market is tricky and it's not guaranteed Liverpool could get the man they want.
Instead, in the short-term, there is an exciting striker at the club who would be ready to replace Nunez and who deserves a chance in the first team.
That player is of course, Jayden Danns.
Danns scored his third goal for Liverpool at the weekend in around 100 minutes of game time for the first team.
He has proven to be extremely effective with every minute he spends on the pitch. And now he sent another reminder to Arne Slot midweek, scoring against Slavia Prague for Liverpool's U21 team.
It was a brilliant finish and it showcased Danns' prowess in front of goal. He is simply deadly when it comes to these situations and that makes him an ideal replacement for Nunez - who is exactly the opposite of that.
As per Wyscout at academy level, Danns had a goal conversion of 23.07% from 2.77 shots per 90.
But he's more than just a finisher, he averages 4.58 dribbles per 90 and 1.38 passes into the opposition’s penalty area. He's very effective at dropping back and taking players on.
At the time same he contributes defensively too, with key recoveries and pressing his opponents high up the pitch.
All of that gives him the tools to be an ideal fit for Slot's team and it's time he is given a chance. Nunez needs to move over, Danns is his perfect replacement.
