Liverpool FC News: Caoimhin Kelleher offers UPDATE on Arne Slot pre-season progress
Caoimhin Kelleher has provided an encouraging update on Arne Slot's first pre-season as Liverpool head coach, with the Reds now only a month away from the start of the Premier League campaign.
Slot has already conducted his first official Liverpool interview and was questioned by reporters during a press conference a little over a week ago, alongside new sporting director Richard Hughes.
He's also got to work with a number of Liverpool players on the training pitch, although the bulk of his high-profile stars are yet to return to Merseyside after representing their countries at Euro 2024 and the Copa America.
The pre-season cohort is largely comprised of young players to date, but there are more experienced heads available to Slot as well.
One of those is back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been discussing his first impressions of the Dutch coach and his training methods.
CAOIMHIN KELLEHER REVELAS 'INTENSE' ARNE SLOT TRAINING
Liverpool supporters were encouraged last week when Kostas Tsimikas revealed the intensity of training sessions under Slot, with Kelleher also impressed by the 45-year-old's approach during pre-season.
Speaking with Liverpoolfc.com, Kelleher stated: "It’s been really good, really enjoyable. Obviously the first few days were just testing and stuff, then we got into the actual training sessions, which have been really good.
"[Slot] has been excellent so far. A lot of detail to what he wants us to do, there’s a lot of stuff to take onboard but he gets his messages across really well and easy to understand as well, which is helpful. His sessions are intense and he pushes us, which is always good.
"It has been really enjoyable so far, I must say."
Kelleher has been strongly linked with an Anfield exit this summer as he searches for regular first-team football, but the Irishman seemed positive when discussing his future.
"The bones of the squad is still there and we want to push on," added the 25-year-old. "It’s not a rebuild or anything like that, it’s just finding those little extra things that can hopefully push us on and get us over the line to win some more trophies.
"[My targets are] similar to last year really. Obviously I had a lot of games last season, which was really good. So just looking to do the same really and keep the same level of performance as well."
Liverpool's first pre-season friendly currently in the calendar will take place when the Reds travel to the United States at the end of July.
Slot will take to the touchline for the first time in Liverpool colours against Real Betis on 27 July, followed by meetings with Arsenal (1 August) and Manchester United (4 August).
Slot will get his first Anfield experience when the Reds take on Sevilla on 11 August.
