Ryan Gravenberch has reached a whole new level under Slot, and Ibrahima Konate has unquestionably reaffirmed himself as Liverpool’s second-best centre back, but not everyone has thrived under the new boss.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ready to strike deal with Colombian contract rebel
One star who has continued to struggle for minutes under Slot is Caoimhin Kelleher who, despite having a run in the first team covering for the injured Alisson, looks set to leave Anfield this summer.
A potential Kelleher exit has been on the cards for a while at Liverpool, but the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer will make it almost certain.
The future of Kelleher
A number of teams have been linked with a move for the Irish shot stopper including Newcastle and Chelsea.
Now, in an interview with Football Insider, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed some harsh truths to Kelleher about a potential move to Newcastle.
“His contract expires at the end of next season but I don’t think Kelleher is an improvement on Nick Pope,” Robinson shared.
“If Eddie Howe thinks Kelleher’s a better goalkeeper than Nick Pope, then yeah, he’s a great option. But does he play out from the back? Does he play the same way as managers want to do? No, which is why Liverpool have not kept him.”

Kelleher has played well when he has come into Liverpool’s starting XI over the past few years, but his struggles with distribution and the undeniable quality of Alisson have kept him from cementing his place as the Reds’ number one.
Kelleher told he's been replaced
Kelleher hasn’t even been a nailed on started in cup competitions this season under Slot, being left on the bench for two of the games in the Reds’ Carabao Cup run.
Mamardashvili coming in would make it even harder for Kelleher to get minutes and, even if Alisson leaves in the summer, the Irishman is never likely to be anything more than a backup for Liverpool.
Slot likes to play out from the back, and although play is typically more controlled under the new boss than it was under Jurgen Klopp, goalkeeper distribution is very important.
Robinson believes that Kelleher’s weakness with distribution is one of the main reasons he won’t become number one at Liverpool.
“That’s why they’ve gone for Marmadashvili, because they want to play a certain way with a goalkeeper at the back who plays with his feet.”

Kelleher has been a great servant to Liverpool, but it does look unlikely that he will ever make the step up to first choice and this summer it may finally be time for a move away.
