Although Bournemouth haven’t traditionally been considered a top Premier League side, Andoni Iraola is leading a team that is a genuine competitor for European football this campaign.

The Reds’ visit to the Vitality Stadium was about as hard a fixture as they could have had at this stage in the season, but Liverpool delivered with a Mohamed Salah brace and their 10th Premier League clean sheet of the season.

How big is Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth?

After a frustrating start to January, with draws against both Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, Liverpool have won three matches in a row, and Bournemouth is undoubtedly their biggest win of 2025 so far.

The Cherries came into Saturday’s clash having dismantled title challengers Nottingham Forest 5-0 the week before and having smashed Newcastle 4-1 at St. James’ Park seven days before that.

The South Coast side had also already beaten both Arsenal and Manchester City at home earlier in the season.

Even after Saturday’s result, Bournemouth remain third in the ‘expected points’ (xPoints) table according to Understat, showing just how good the Cherries have been this season.

It was Bournemouth’s impressive form going into the match that has led some supporters to label the Reds’ most recent victory their best of the season.

Liverpool in pole position for their 20th league title

Saturday’s win saw the Reds’ move nine points clear at the top of the table, but second-place Arsenal will play fourth-place Manchester City on Sunday, meaning that Slot’s side will once again have a game in hand at the close of the weekend.

This game in hand is in fact the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park and is set to be played on Wednesday 12 February.

The clash against Everton won’t be easy but could offer the Reds the opportunity to take a 12-point lead with only 14 matches remaining, if City beat Arsenal on Sunday.

With just under half of the season to go Liverpool find themselves in a great position in the league, through to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League after topping the 'league-phase' and in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
