Liverpool keen to avoid their Jurgen Klopp 'headache' under Arne Slot
Liverpool are eager to avoid a ‘regular headache’ they suffered under Jurgen Klopp now that Arne Slot is in charge of first-team affairs.
The Athletic reports that Liverpool are hoping a 'regular headache' of injury problems is now behind them. It's something that plagued recent seasons under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool's post-title-winning campaign was ruined by injuries, for instance. The Reds were without all three of their senior centre-backs by the end of January, while players in several other positions suffered long-term problems, too.
Those issues fixed themselves for 2021/22 but eventually came back. Last season, for instance, just about every first-team player was out for an extended period. Thiago was the worst of it - he played 13 minutes all season.
Of course, the Carabao Cup final was perhaps the finest example of injury problems. Klopp had to rely on kids to get the trophy home, with the majority of the first team sitting on the sidelines.
It's a problem Liverpool hope is now behind them. A new regime is in with fresh ideas and the club actively sought out a new head coach with a solid track record on injuries.
Slot can hopefully provide just that. Even if the level of intensity is similar to that of Klopp's era, ideas about regulation and recovery will differ - and could make all the difference.
Arne Slot can change things
Replacing Jurgen Klopp is virtually impossible, such was the impact he had at Liverpool. But while Slot may lack certain characteristics that made Klopp great, the hope will be that he can excel in areas like this to bring a similar impact.
Injuries have been a massive problem for Liverpool in recent times. Though, it's important to remember that several top clubs have battled something similar - the number of games at the elite level is such that managing injuries feels impossible at times.
Liverpool have certainly had it far, far worse than most, though. Perhaps a change at the top is the fix - we'll certainly be hoping so.
