Arne Slot repeats GENIUS trick and wins again

Arne Slot reversed his genius trick from earlier in the season and once again saw positive results. Liverpool have an elite head coach.

Arne Slot oversaw a difficult victory over Wolves on Sunday as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners at Anfield. The Reds held a 2-0 lead heading into the break but it was far from routine after that.

In fact, Wolves dominated large periods of the second half. They'd had the last 10 shots at one stage and produced a wonderful goal from Matheus Cunha.

Liverpool were up against it, really. The second half was when the fightback happened but there were signs in the first half.

Ibrahima Konate was front and centre of that. The Frenchman looked shakey as Wolves put him under pressure, forcing a yellow card and even shouts that he should have been sent off.

It was possibly his worst performance of the season, in fact. Slot had to take action and when he did so, we saw one of his best decisions of the season come full circle.

Arne Slot's genius

Rewind back to Slot's first game in charge. Jarell Quansah started at the back, presumably as Virgil van Dijk's first-choice partner - much as he'd finished the previous campaign.

But Quansah struggled badly in the first half against Ipswich Town. Slot made the immediate decision to substitute him at halftime, bringing on Konte.

Konate has held onto that starting spot ever since, only vacating it for fitness or rotation reasons. On Sunday, though, Slot made the opposite call.

Slot removed Konate for Quansah, backing the younger defender to see out the fixture. He was right to do so, too.

Quansah was brilliant and looked much more like the player of last season. He's laced confidence since that sub at Ipswich, something Slot himself recognised, but this was incredibly promising.

Now, hopefully, Konate doesn't have any reduction in his own confidence but we don't expect him to. Instead, Liverpool should end up with a growth in confidence from Quansah that sees him play an important role in the upcoming months.

And it's all thanks to Slot recognising the moment to make a major call.
