Despite the eventual 3-1 scoreline, Liverpool’s first half performance left a lot to be desired and the Reds found themselves 1-0 down at half-time in a league game at Anfield for only the third time this season.

It wasn’t just supporters who were left frustrated by Liverpool’s lacklustre 45 minutes, Arne Slot was reportedly left furious with his players at the break.

And he didn’t shy away from letting them know.

Van Dijk reveals Slot’s anger

Speaking to the press after the match, Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk revealed just how upset the Reds’ boss was at half-time.

“Yes [it was the angriest I've seen him] but if you look at the first half, he had every right to be angry,” Virgil said, via the Liverpool ECHO. “I think from his point of view as well, it was even more frustrating to see. But we did what we all wanted in the second half and what he wanted as well and now we move on.”

Van Dijk is right, Liverpool did what they needed to do in the second half, and at the end of the day three points were gained.

Slot’s frustrations are understandable though. Liverpool delivered a very poor performance for 99% of their smash and grab victory over PSG in the Champions League round of 16 first leg, and with the second leg fast approaching, the Dutchman will know his team has to improve.

Arne Slot’s management at Liverpool

The new boss’ excellent management has so far limited his opportunities to be angry at his side. Liverpool have been nothing short of outstanding for the majority of their games this campaign.

Even in matches that the Reds’ have struggled in, they tend to come away with at least a share of the points, and that is what has made Slot’s side so formidable.

With the Premier League title looking an almost certainty for Liverpool, some supporters may question why Slot was so exasperated at the Reds’ display in a game that probably won’t matter in the title race.

It is Slot’s high standards and his demands for excellence that shine through, and these are traits that will serve him well as the boss at Anfield.
