Arne Slot impressed by Liverpool youngster's 'technical ability'; could earn him a squad place
Sepp van den Berg has reportedly impressed Arne Slot with his technical ability in training. He could earn a squad place.
The Athletic reports that Arne Slot and his coaching staff like what they see from Sepp van den Berg. The defender has been back with Liverpool this preseason after a fantastic spell at Mainz.
In fact, the article says Liverpool's reports on Van den Berg were 'glowing' after his time in Germany. Slot is now getting a proper look at him and it appears he's doing very, very well.
Here's what the Athletic had to say:
[Van den Berg] showcased his athleticism in the fitness testing as he led the way before Mohamed Salah returned and knocked him off the top of the charts. Slot and his staff have been taken by his maturity and technical ability in training.
It's an interesting development in what's a massive summer for Van den Berg. No one is quite sure where he'll be at the end of it.
Van den Berg's future
Van den Berg hasn't kept it a secret that he wants things sorted out this summer. He is very happy to leave Liverpool, in fact, if he can't secure first-team football this season.
That will come down to how much he can impress Slot and his coaches. If Van den Berg can do that, he may well be the replacement in the squad for Joel Matip.
And it certainly appears that he's on track to do that. It's early days, of course, but the Dutchman is already making his compatriot take notice.
However, things could change and there's still a chance that Van den Berg won't find the football he wants at Liverpool. That would necessitate a sale, as far as he sees things, and he's already voiced concerns that the Reds' asking price is too high.
