Arne Slot reflects on 'not so easy' transfers as first Liverpool squad CONFIRMED

Arne Slot will face his toughest challenge yet when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to take on long-time rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

The former Feyenoord boss has enjoyed an impressive start to life in Merseyside, picking up six points from his first two games in charge, and after a rollercoaster of a first transfer window his squad for the first half of the season is now confirmed.

Liverpool completed two signings this summer, Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia and Federico Chiesa from Juventus, although the former will be staying in Spain until next summer.

The Reds also saw a deal fall through for Spain’s Euros star Martín Zubimendi when the 25-year-old decided to stay put at Real Sociedad.

Deals had also been close for a number of players, including Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, but there were no more arrivals at Anfield. Slot also managed to keep together the core of Jürgen Klopp’s squad, with only fringe players moving away either permanently or on loan.

How does Slot feel about the window?

In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of the Manchester United clash, Slot shared his opinions on a ‘not so easy’ transfer window at Liverpool.

"There are two ways of improving and strengthening the squad, and one of them is absolutely the training pitch, and the second one could be bringing in new players.

"But I said many times before: it's not so easy to bring in players of our standards at this club because the players I already have are from a really high standard. And in almost every position, we have [two options].”

The squad that Slot inherited from his predecessor wasn’t perfect but did manage a third-place finish in the Premier League last season and also won the Carabao Cup for a record tenth time.

Many Liverpool supporters will be hoping that Slot can achieve similar results this season and the Red’s business this summer has divided opinion online.

Have Liverpool done enough this summer?

Although it is too early in the season to properly assess the ceiling of this Liverpool team, Klopp has set the bar high over the past decade and the German often did so without breaking the bank.

Slot will be hoping to recreate the legendary manager’s success and told Sky Sports: “There's not much need for us to do a lot in the market. Only if we see there is a really good chance for us to improve the team and the player wants to come to us, then we act.

"I've been very happy until now with the players we have and I think they've earned this trust in the first two games."

The squad that Slot inherited will have to do for this weekend as new arrival Chiesa is unlikely to feature against Man United.

Only time will tell how much the new head coach can improve his team on the training pitch and Liverpool supporters will want to see results if this method is going to remain a long-term alternative for signing players.
