Arne Slot is at odds with Michael Oliver over what was said, which led to his red card against Everton. The Liverpool boss has a different version of events.

Arne Slot did not enjoy how the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park ended. In fact, he was furious about it.

He wasn't necessarily furious with his Liverpool team, who gave away a last-gasp goal against their rivals. Instead, he directed his fury at the referee.

Michael Oliver did not have a good game. Just about everyone would agree with that and Slot certainly felt an urge to go and tell him that after the final whistle.

Slot was sent off for what he told Oliver and suspended for two matches by the FA. Now the details of his hearing have been released - and we can see what the two parties allege was said.

Olive claims Slot was very angry with him and said he 'f***ing give them everything’. The Liverpool boss then went on to say that ‘If we don’t win the league, I’ll f***ing blame you’.

Now, we'd have happily taken a two-match ban to say that but Slot claims he didn't say it.

Arne Slot's claim

Slot says he actually said 'if we don’t win the league, I will have you to thank for that'. In other words, he claims there was no aggression in his words - just frustration.

The FA claim that even if he's telling the truth, it doesn't really change the charge against him. That charge was for 'improper conduct' and Slot accepts that take.

Slot also admits he told an assistant referee that he was a 'f****** disgrace'.

So essentially, Slot didn't really try to talk his way out of the charge here. He fully admits he crossed a line with how he approached Oliver and has accepted the suspension.

Of course, one party isn't telling the entire truth here. Slot was either as aggressive as Oliver says or actually more muted with his words.

He gets the suspension either way but one quote is certainly more aggressive than the other. Not that it truly matters and we don't begrudge Slot for getting as wound up as he did.

It wasn't the first time this season that Liverpool have felt like referees mishandled a match and unfortunately, it won't be the last.
