Arne Slot confirms Liverpool star is OUT with worrying injury update

Arne Slot has ruled one Liverpool star out of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday. A worrying injury update, too.

Arne Slot doesn't have a full squad right now. It's nearly there but not quite, with Trent Alexander-Arnold working his way back from injury after going off against Bournemouth.

The Scouser isn't seriously injured but the Reds are taking care with him. There was zero chance that he played against Plymouth Argyle, for instance.

Curtis Jones ultimately missed that one, too. He had a slight knock and sat on the bench for the duration of the FA Cup tie.

Jones has had bad luck with injuries over the years. This one, though, doesn't appear to be anything too serious.

And then there's Joe Gomez. Slot gave an injury update on Tuesday that sounds worrying, to say the least.

Joe Gomez's injury

Gomez started against Plymouth as Liverpool's captain but had to depart during the first half. He's now injured again and the Reds will be without him for at least a little while.

Slot was able to entirely rule Gomez out of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday, for instance. He confirmed that the defender is missing and that this injury is the same leg as his previous problem.

It's a worry, of course. Gomez has had some horrific injuries over the years and unfortunately, a problem is never too far away.

Now, there's no suggestion that this injury is one that's anything near Gomez's worst injuries. He won't be out for the rest of the season or anything - but it is another setback when he really didn't need it.

Fingers crossed he recovers as quickly as possible and gets back into the squad. Liverpool could use Gomez and his versatility, especially with doubts over Alexander-Arnold.
