Harvey Elliott has made himself a problem for Arne Slot. How will the Liverpool boss handle things?

Harvey Elliott has had a strange season. He got a couple of minutes in the opener against Brentford but it didn't take long for him to pick up an injury.

That injury kept him out for months. We're not now seeing him back in the mix, in fact, and his total minutes this season are 32 across all competitions.

Not a lot to go on, then. We've seen more of Federico Chiesa.

Saturday, though, was an interesting one. Elliott came on for the last 14 minutes, with Liverpool hunting a win despite being down to 10 men. What we got out of the player was fantastic - and immediately creates a problem for Arne Slot.

We were very impressed with Elliott's cameo here. In just 15 minutes, he created two chances, won two tackles and got a shot off.

Only Dominik Szoboszlai created more chances across the 90 than Elliott (3), only Joe Gomez won more tackles (4), and Curtis Jones was the only other midfielder to manage a shot. In other words, Elliott packed an incredible amount into those 14 minutes.

Enough so that we want to see a lot more of him. Here, after all, is a player Jurgen Klopp considered to be 'the best' in the squad for a period last season.

We actually felt not too long ago that Elliott would struggle to get back in. There's plenty of competition for that no.10 role and this is a difficult squad to find minutes in when you need to get up to speed.

But Elliott has gotten up to speed instantly. He's wasted no time and looks ready to compete for a starting spot.

So while we thought Elliott would have a problem this season, it's actually Arne Slot. How is he going to find minutes for the young midfielder while also keeping Szoboszlai, Jones et al. in the team enough?

That's a difficult one but it almost certainly starts with the EFL Cup tie against Southampton. Elliott must get plenty of minutes in that one and if he performs well again, he'll be coming for more.

How Slot finds time for them all is anyone's guess, though.
