The Reds finished top of the first-ever league phase in the Champions League this season, with an impressive seven victories from eight matches.
Despite finishing best-in-class Slot’s side faced a tough challenge in PSG, one of the most in-form sides remaining in the competition.
Slot looking to break Reds’ winless streak
Liverpool went into Wednesday’s match looking to finish the tie before the reverse leg at Anfield next week but also looking to end a nearly 17-year winless streak in France.
The Reds lost on their previous six visits to France, including the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.

But Harvey Elliott changed all that. Despite Liverpool being under pressure for large spells in the Parc des Princes, the substitute popped up with an 87th-minute winner to give the Reds something to hold onto at Anfield.
Their last win in France came under Rafa Benitez in the 2008/09 Champions League group stage, when the Reds managed a 2-1 victory over Marseille.
On top of the almost 17 years of disappointment in France, Liverpool had never before beaten PSG away from home in European competition, losing 2-0 in their only other attempt back in the 2018/19 season.
Liverpool looking to prove a point
Although the Reds have undoubtedly been one of the best sides in world football this season, many rival fans have continued to play down the success of Slot.
The strength of this year’s Premier League cohort has been called into question and time and time again rivals have blamed opposing team’s form or injuries for Liverpool’s success, but that wasn't the case this time.
PSG went into Wednesday’s round of 16 clash without any major injuries, having won their last 10 matches in all competitions.
Luis Enrique’s side represent one of the hardest challenges Slot will have faced since he took the reigns at Anfield, and a win on Wednesday not only broke nearly two decades of hoodoo but proven just how good Liverpool are.

As well as moving Liverpool one step closer to a potential treble, victory in Paris puts to bed any claims that Arne Slot's side aren't the best in Europe.
