There are a number of factors that contribute to the Reds’ ability to win games, their tendency to dominate possession and the mentality instilled by Arne Slot, included.
It isn’t just mentality and team performances that are winning Slot games however, the Dutchman has a secret weapon.
There is one player that is a certified game winner for the Reds, and it isn’t who you’d expect.
Slot’s secret weapon
Slot’s tactics and coaching obviously go a long way towards Liverpool’s results, but there is one player who has been a match-winner time and time again this campaign.
Darwin Nunez may only have 11 goal contributions this season, but nine of them have been game changing.
On four occasions a Nunez goal has given Liverpool the lead, and once he has scored to tie the game. The Uruguayan has also provided two assists to goals that put the Reds ahead, and two assists that brought them level.

The 25-year-old also won the penalty that gave Liverpool the lead in Saturday’s match against Southampton.
Nunez may not score or assist often, but when he does it is usually important.
Nunez’s future at Anfield
A summer overhaul is coming at Liverpool, and Nunez could be one of the players shipped out in order to fund an era-defining rebuild in Merseyside.
The enigmatic striker was the subject of a £70 million bid from the Saudi Pro League in January, as exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch, and it is likely that the striker will attract interest again at the end of the season.
Despite Nunez’s important contributions, his overall performance levels don’t appear to be up to Slot’s standards and Liverpool have been linked with a number of players in his position.
Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko both appear to be genuine targets for the Reds, and it’s difficult to imagine a world in which the is a high-profile signing up front and Nunez remains at Liverpool.
Darwin Nunez’s contributions at Liverpool have been important this season, but the striker needs to be more consistent with his performances in order to truly make it as an elite striker.
