Andy Robertson tells Arne Slot he's WRONG about Liverpool team

Andy Robertson believes Arne Slot is wrong about the current Liverpool team. The Scot has been very open with his assessment.

Andy Robertson admits he hasn't been at his best lately. The left-back struggled quite badly for 45 minutes against Arsenal a few weeks ago - arguably the worst 45 of his Liverpool career.

And for any player 30 and over, that leads to accusations of being past it. Now, some weren't thrilled with Robertson's performances last season, either, but there's no denying that he hasn't quite hit the levels we know he can reach.

Robertson himself recognises that.

“Probably a bad 45 minutes of football against Arsenal, it was not great," he told the Guardian. "I think pretty much everyone had written me off after that.

"That is football and that is what happens these days. People can write me off all they want. But I will always try to keep working, keep improving, I have tried to do that and hopefully, I have shown that [against Villa].”

Robertson disagrees with Slot

It's a very open interview with the Guardian from Robertson. He even goes as far as admitting he disagrees with Arne Slot over his current team selection.

Namely, he feels he shouldn't be out of the XI behind Kostas Tsimikas. It does appear that the Greek is currently the first-choice under Slot, having started against Bayer Leverkusen.

“The manager is very open and honest,” said Robertson. “We have spoken quite a few times and it has always been good conversations. There is mutual respect between both of us even if we don’t agree with the team lineups.

“It happened with Jürgen [Klopp], it has happened with Scotland, and I always have respect for the manager. He knows my experience in the changing room and how I try to help everyone else. And that won’t stop. But I do like playing.

"I like starting and being on the pitch but when I’m not I try to be as professional as I can and just try to do my talking on the training pitch and wait for my chance. I knew that the next time I got a chance I would take it and that’s what I tried to do.”

Robertson's future

The Scot will want to prove Slot wrong ASAP and force his way back into being one of the first names on the teamsheet. He'll want to do that anyway, of course, but the fact that Liverpool are reportedly looking at alternatives should speed up Robertson.

That is a very worrying sign for a player with just over 18 months left on his contract. We can't imagine a new long-term one is on the way, either, given Robertson will be 32 when it ends.

It's a big few months, then. Robertson certainly has the ability to get back to where he was and he's right - his display against Aston Villa was much improved.

Keep that up and perhaps the talk of Milos Kerkez et al. goes away quickly.
