Player hints he WOULDN'T have rejected Liverpool offer if Jurgen Klopp was still there

One player admits he may not have rejected an offer from Liverpool this summer if Jurgen Klopp was still at the club. Instead, Adrian joined Real Betis.

Adrian brought his five-year Liverpool spell to an end this summer as he returned to his boyhood club, Real Betis. The Spaniard had arrived back in 2019 as a backup goalkeeper to Alisson Becker and made an immediate impact.

Adrian ended up playing 12 Premier League games as the Reds won the title, while he was also a hero in the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea. He saved the final penalty in the shootout to help win the trophy.

There have been ups and downs since, of course, and Adrian mostly settled into a squad role for his final two seasons. He was well-liked in the group and reliable enough for Liverpool to keep him around even when he wasn't playing.

In fact, the Reds offered him a new contract this summer, even after zero appearances last season and just two in the last three years. Adrian, however, rejected that offer.

Adrian may have stayed

Adrian spoke to Caden SER recently and admitted that while he's thrilled to be back at Betis, he could have stayed at Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp had done so. The goalkeeper says it's 'complicated'.

"If I tell you the truth, everything would have been a little complicated [if Klopp had stayed]," said Adrian. "I had a very good relationship with Jurgen and with all the staff.

"We had a very good group. The Betis option is always there and when the train passes through there, you have to catch it.”

Instead, Liverpool have to move on from Adrian and will do that by promoting from within. Vitezslav Jaros will be the no.3 goalkeeper going forward, with Caoimhin Kelleher the no.2 (for now).
