They are also yet to agree moves away from the club. Although they are now free to negotiate with clubs from abroad having entered the last six months of their contracts.

It's very much up in the air what happens to them beyond this season. Undoubtedly, losing both would be catastrophic for Liverpool. And yet it remains a possibility.

One thing is clear, they are both strong characters and aren't afraid to go against the grain.

Mo Salah and Van Dijk make bold prediction

This weekend, the ultimate event on the North American calendar is set to take place as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

It's an event that has clearly piqued the Liverpool squad's interest with the club's official account asking the players who they will be supporting in the final.

As expected, most of the club's players picked the favourites, the Chiefs with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher and many more players making that choice.

There weren't too many players who picked the Eagles, except for Salah and Van Dijk who made what appears to be a controversial prediction among their teammates.

They have good reasons to be routing for the Eagles. Liverpool were in Philadelphia and rubbed shoulders with some of the franchises' biggest stars during their summer pre-season tour.

Saquon Barkley, the Eagles' popular running back, was even seen promoting the club's new away shirt on Liverpool's official social media channels.

With Liverpool leading the Premier League at the moment and the Eagles having a chance to win the Super Bowl, it's only fair that the Reds will be supporting the Philadelphia based team.

Both of them spent time together in pre-season and both good be each others' good luck charm.

The Eagles have a good chance to win as well. The Chiefs have won two years in a row, including in 2023, when they narrowly defeated the Eagles in the final.

But now the Eagles are stronger with the addition of players like Saquon Barkley and that could give them the edge to end the Chiefs' dominance.

Much like how Liverpool are hoping to end Manchester City's dominance in the Premier League. The parallels are all there.

Once again, Salah and Van Dijk may be going against the grain, but they have every right to be supporting the Eagles rather than the Chiefs.
