Last season they beat Chelsea in the final with Jurgen Klopp signing off from his reign as Liverpool manager with a trophy in his final campaign in charge.

Newcastle took Arsenal apart over two legs in the semis and are back in the Wembley showpiece just two seasons on from losing to Manchester United in the final.

Rail strikes

Liverpool fans planning on making the trip to London for the Carabao Cup final will have to take plenty of precautions and plan well ahead owing to potential travel and transport disruptions.

The kick-off time for the game has yet to be confirmed but last year's final kicked off at a traditional mid-afternoon time of 15:00 GMT.

The RMT union announced strikes affecting Avanti West Coast services on all Sundays from January 12 to May 25 2025. Services will be reduced from Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston on the day of the final and the trains that run will be extremely busy.

No timetable has yet been published for Sunday, March 16 but it is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, March 11.

Services from Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston via Birmingham New Street are available with a journey time of approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes on the day. Trains on this route will run hourly but availability will be limited.

Alternative arrangements

Coach services such as National Express and Megabus will give alternative transport options from Liverpool to London on the day of the game.

Fans who plan to drive from Merseyside ought to ensure the route is clear of closures and delays. Parking options in and around Wembley are strictly limited so pre-booked parking and the use of park-and-ride services are recommended.

Liverpool fans are strongly recommended to check the websites of train operators for any last-minute amendments and to make arrangements as soon as possible.

It may be easier for supporters to travel prior to the game on Saturday March 15 instead when there are fewer disruptions.

East Coast Main Line engineering works

Fans of Newcastle United making their way down from the North East face even bigger transport woes with engineering works taking place on the East Coast Main Line.

Lumo services will only run between Newcastle and Edinburgh on Saturday March 15 and Sunday March 16 and there are NO direct trains between London and Newcastle on the day of the game.

Supporters seeking access to Wembley from Newcastle should make alternative arrangements for travel including checking other rail routes, utilising coach services or making private hire.
