Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will be very glad they made that decision based on Amorim's start to life at Old Trafford.
Things have not gotten easier for Liverpool's arch rivals with Erik ten Hag gone. In fact under Amorim, United have struggled even more, and that was evident against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim's hilarious Man United claim
Brighton tore United apart and went home with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford. It's another defeat for United, with this being the fifth defeat for them in their last eight matches.
Their only victory in that time that came in a normal 90 minute game was against Southampton - who are currently in torrid form and are sitting at the top of the Premier League table.
United aren't far off either as Amorim's side continue to slide further down the Premier League table. The gap is now a gigantic 24 points between the two sides.
Amorim was quick to concede defeat and made a hilarious declaration about United that Liverpool will love.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Amorim revealed that his side might be the worst Man United side of all time as per The Athletic.
“In 10 games in the Premier League we won two, I know that,” Amorim said. “Imagine this for a fan of Manchester United, imagine this for me.
“You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. Imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that.
“We are being maybe the worst team in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines but I’m saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. So there you go, your headline.”
That's quite a laughable claim, not because it's wrong but because it's so accurate. It's simply music to all Liverpool supporters' ears.
What makes Amorim's words even sweeter is the fact that he could have easily ended up as the Reds' manager instead of Slot.
Thankfully, common sense prevailed, and it's the Dutchman in the dugout for the Reds.
