Over 10,000 Liverpool fans have picked their preferred choice to be the Reds' next manager after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out.

Ever since Jurgen Klopp announced he would step down, Xabi Alonso has been the favourite to take over as the next Liverpool manager. The Bayer Leverkusen boss has overseen a historic season in charge, with the club storming towards their first Bundesliga title and unbeaten in all competitions.

What a ridiculous thing to be saying at the end of April.

He also also the favoured choice by Liverpool fans to take over. In a poll we ran back in January, over 89% chose Alonso to be the next Liverpool manager.

But Friday saw the Spaniard rule himself out of the running for both the Liverpool and Bayern Munich jobs. He'll instead remain with Leverkusen for at least another year.

That leaves Liverpool searching for a new first choice. It also leaves plenty of fans picking a new preferred choice - and we asked our followers on X (formally Twitter) for their picks.

Over 10,000 voted in 24 hours and here's who you went for.

Liverpool fans pick overwhelming favourite

There's no question who the fans want, with Sporting CP's Rúben Amorim securing over 64% of the vote here. While that's not quite the 89% that Alonso managed, it's still a remarkable portion.

Perhaps the most notable thing here is the swing from Roberto De Zerbi to Amorim since January. Back then, the latter managed a meagre 1.1% of the vote, with De Zerbi grabbing 6.8%.

Now? De Zerbi has increased his share by a percent in the wake of Alonso's exit but he's now nowhere near Amorim. In fact, considerably more would like to see Germany's Julian Nagelsmann get the job.

There's also a big increase in the number of 'other' votes. Though, that could simply be certain people not giving up on Alonso.
