Arne Slot has done a great job since his arrival in Merseyside, defying the expectations of almost everyone, but he has done so with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Federico Chiesa, who arrived in a cut-price deal late in the summer, has been the only addition to Slot’s playing squad – but the Italian has had little impact.

Although Slot has his team flying at the moment, an overhaul is coming this summer, and Liverpool supporters have had their say on who the Reds should bring in.

Supporters make it clear who they want

Although Liverpool’s attack is set for a refresh in the summer, there are pressing concerns at the other end of the field as well.

Two of the defenders most linked with Anfield moves this summer have been Bournemouth duo Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen, and now supporters have made it clear which of the pair they’d rather Liverpool sign.

In a poll run by Anfield Watch on X, formerly known as Twitter, supporters were asked to choose which of the defenders they would sign for the Reds if they could only pick one, and the results saw an overwhelming victory for Kerkez.

Kerkez received 67.5% of the vote and is clearly the more important signing for the majority of supporters.

Who is the bigger priority?

Liverpool’s left-back spot appears to be the weakest it has been since Andrew Robertson replaced Alberto Moreno in the starting XI.

Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are both viewed as sub-par options for the majority of supporters and that is likely why Kerkez, who could come in and make that spot his own, won out over Huijsen in the fan poll.

The centre of the defence could also be a pressing issue going into next season though. Virgil van Dijk is currently set to leave on a free transfer and PSG are keen on striking a deal that would see Ibrahima Konate leave Merseyside.

This would leave Joe Gomez, who has continuously struggled with injury, and Jarell Quansah, who hasn’t kicked on after an impressive spell at the end of last season, as the only two senior options for Liverpool at centre half.

There is always the possibility that Van Dijk extends his stay, and Konate isn’t tempted away by the French giants, and in that scenario Kerkez is the clear priority.

Milos Kerkez may be the supporters’ favourite option, but there is always the possibility that Richard Hughes manages to convince both players to join from his former employers in the summer.
