Liverpool fans hit by train cancellations ahead of Carabao Cup final
It was chaos for Liverpool fans making the trip from the North West down to London for today's Carabao Cup final.
Many fans were left without their planned route of travel after a damaged overhead wire between Crewe and Runcorn brought about an array of cancellations and delays.
National Rail said that due to the damage, a train line was blocked, with disruption expected to continue until 1pm - just two hours prior to kick-off.
The Avanti West Coast service between Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston and the London Northwestern Railway between Liverpool Lime Street and Birmingham New Street were impacted.
For the Avanti West Coast route, National Rail said trains may be diverted via Earlestown. For the London Northwestern Railway, rail replacement coaches have been ordered and will shuttle between Liverpool Lime Street and Crewe.
Numerous fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their frustration.
One person said: "@WestMidRailway thanks for cancelling the 10:33 from Lime Street lads, probably gonna miss the match now."
For those fortunate enough to make it to Wembley, things haven't got much easier - upon arrival at the stadium, fans have also had to deal with ticketing issues.
