All seems to be quiet on the transfer front for Liverpool at the moment to the understandable dismay of many fans.

Because, whilst this team is still looking down at the rest of the Premier League and Champions League teams, there’s an understanding that significant squad turnover will be occurring sooner rather than later whether fans want it or not.

Throughout the season rumours have been following the club of interest in new centre-backs, left-backs, centre-midfielders and centre-forwards, as well as any possible replacement for Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold if necessary.

The club have recently had to deal with the disappointment of losing out on Omar Marmoush to Manchester City, and are combatting another rumour that Arsenal are in for Martin Zubimendi.

But not all hope is lost - and a new report by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has ensured just that.

Romano confirms Liverpool want Rayan Cherki

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Romano reignited rumours of the Reds’ interest in Olympique Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

After confirming that Cherki has a ‘release clause’, which he describes as more of a “gentleman’s agreement” with owner John Textor of €22.5 million, Romano goes on to say that,

"The player is available already now. This sort of clause is also valid in the summer, but also now, so it's a big opportunity for many clubs. Cherki received many calls from Germany, from England, from Italy - many agents who wanted to understand the situation around him.”

One of these, as has been well established, is Liverpool. The club’s interest in the Frenchman is more than understandable. His 13 goal involvements so far this season are certainly exciting, but his dribbling and intricate play with the ball at his feet mean he fits a player profile Liverpool just don’t have on their books right now.

"But my information is that at the moment, there is still nothing really close but there could be movement.” Romano continued, which could dampen an exciting story.

"With Liverpool at the moment, the appreciation of the player in terms of scouting him has been there, because they've been following the player.

"They are always following talents, but at the moment, I'm not aware of a proper negotiation between Liverpool and Olympique Lyon for Cherki."

So talks aren’t open at time of writing - but that doesn’t mean they won’t be. This has been a long established rumour and certainly isn’t without credibility. After missing out on one of their key long established targets, the club won’t exactly be keen for it to happen again.
