Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS Liverpool interest in €95m phenom
It had been coming over the course of months now, but Sunday’s League Cup final loss to Newcastle laid bare the extent of just how badly Liverpool need a new centre-forward.
Diogo Jota was aimless for 58 minutes, chasing loose balls and failing to particularly capitalise on any of them.
Liverpool Transfer News: Alvarez one step CLOSER as star's head is turned
Darwin Nunez wasn’t much better when he came on, but to his benefit the Reds were already 2-0 down and hadn’t looked like they’d fancied it all day.
But the pair of them have only combined for 15 of Liverpool’s 106 goals in all competitions so far this season.

One of these is Anfield Watch’s exclusive on Liverpool’s willingness to break their own transfer record to sign Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
That report details how the Reds tried to make it happen last summer, with parts of their scouting department going to bat for the Argentine as sporting director Richard Hughes flew out to Madrid to talk to Alvarez’s agent.
And this term he has only made himself more desirable, with 23 goals and five assists in all competitions for an Atletico Madrid side that sit just four points off the top of La Liga.

Now this report has been backed up by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Romano backs up Liverpool's interest in Alvarez
When talking about Alvarez in his latest newsletter for GIVEMESPORT, Romano wrote, “Could Liverpool target a move for Julian Alvarez this summer? He was on their shortlist last summer, for sure.
“Now he’s happy at Atletico and he signed for them just 9 months ago, so nothing concrete at this stage. We will see.”
This backs up watch the Anfield Watch exclusive already knew. Because of this, it makes sense that the Reds would be willing to part with a record fee to get the deal done.

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City last summer in a deal worth up to €95m (around £82m). It is now already expected prying him away from the Spanish capital would cost in excess of £100m.
But in the football world that’s a small price to pay for what could be a monumental return in comparison.
