Fabrizio Romano has given an update surrounding Liverpool’s potential move for Anthony Gordon stating that the Reds’ interest remains concrete.

The former Everton man had a strong 2023/24 campaign under Eddie Howe for Newcastle. He scored 11 goals in the Premier League whilst also getting 10 assists.

So there was no shock that top sides would be linked with his signature but there was a slight surprise that it was Liverpool given his time at Goodison Park.

However, Gordon is a known boyhood Liverpool fan and the latest update about the possible transfer is that all hope is not lost.

GORDON REMAINS HIGH ON LIVERPOOL LIST

Romano provided a transfer update on his YouTube channel with a focus on Liverpool.

Regarding the initial talks that took place about Gordon, he said: “In the final days of June when they were in trouble with financial fair play Newcastle were approached by Liverpool for Anthony Gordon.

“There was an exchange, the player was keen on the move. This is important to say; so at that time Anthony Gordon gave the green light for a potential move to Liverpool but Newcastle decided not to accept the proposals.

“It was just an exchange, just a conversation, not a formal bid but Liverpool wanted to make a proposal but that was not what Newcastle expected for Gordon so the deal didn't advance.”

Even though Liverpool were rebuffed in their efforts back then for the 23-year-old, Romano gave fans some positive news about the transfer.

Liverpool 'keep believing' in Gordon deal

The Italian said: “I'm hearing that the interest of Liverpool in Gordon remains a strong interest, remains a concrete interest, he is a player they really rate internally, a player they really like and so the name of Gordon remains high on Liverpool list.

“We know that for this summer they are looking at midfield, they're looking at centre-back position also so there are other things to do for Liverpool in this summer transfer window.

“What's important to say is that in case they decide to do something in offensive positions Gordon remains a player they really rate, they really like and so internally they are discussing the situation of Gordon because they keep believing that they could be a fantastic player for the future of Liverpool."

If any talks take place again Romano explained what the issue could be: "Again the problem could be in valuation with Newcastle because he's a really important player for Newcastle and they don't have an intention to make a normal price for Anthony Gordon.

“Has to be a big price for him in order to give a potential green light but at the moment Newcastle really want to keep the player at the club.”

Gordon is set to return to pre-season training at Newcastle very soon after having extended time off due to being at the European Championships.
