Even TEAMMATES wondered why Liverpool didn't use Fabio Carvalho

Fabio Carvalho claims even some of his teammates wondered why he wasn’t getting any game time at Liverpool last season.

Fabio Carvalho gave a fairly extensive interview to the Liverpool Echo recently, the last part of which was published on Wednesday. The playmaker talked about his season with Liverpool - and the lack of minutes he saw.

Carvalho was initially very present in the side but disappeared gradually. By the end of the campaign, he wasn't playing at all and the inevitable loan move followed last summer.

Of course, that loan to RB Leipzig was a disaster but he's since found his feet again at Hull City. Though, none of that was the plan.

Carvalho tried to break into the Liverpool first-team but was unable to even get opportunities by the end. He explained in his interview that no one - even his teammates - was sure why he wasn't playing

“Yes, I spoke to [Jurgen Klopp]," said Carvalho. "Spoke to him not a lot, if I’m being honest with you. Maybe I should have done that, I have should have done that a bit more.

“But I did speak to him. He just said, ‘Be patient. You’re training well, your chance will come.’

“And I did think I was training well. To the point where some of the players were asking me, ‘What’s going on? Why are you not playing?’

“It is what it is kind of thing. But yeah, I did see him and he said, ‘Just be patient, keep training, and your chance will come.’ That’s all I could ask of him.

“He was honest with me, he gave me a few pointers on what I could do and what I could improve on, and I just tried to apply that in training.”

Carvalho was brutally unlucky that the side fell to pieces last season. Klopp fell back on players he trusted as a result, unwilling to take too many chances on those he didn't entirely know.

That meant Carvalho fell by the wayside. Compare that to the number of opportunities handed out to youngsters this season - the Portuguese playmaker would have had plenty of chances.

This summer is a new dawn for him, though. Arne Slot is in and absolutely no one is a 'trusted' player - it's a chance for Carvalho to play with a clean slate and finally force his way into the Liverpool setup.
