Despite looking likely to deliver the best season of his career, Mohamed Salah might leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

This is because he is set to be out of contract, and negotiations to extend his stay at the club have yet to produce a fruitful agreement.

Sitting on £350,000 a week, and currently 32 years old, Salah presents a challenging decision for Liverpool's hierarchy.

Traditionally, players have been prone to slowing down as their careers approach their end, but Salah has yet to show any signs of fatigue. He has 16 goals and 12 assists in just 22 appearances this season.

Whenever Liverpool needs him to step up, he does so, and even when the team has a firm grip on a game after the other forwards have chipped in, Salah makes sure to cash in on the opportunity.

However, the current reality is that he is free to negotiate with other clubs about his future from January 1, and although he has openly spoken about his desire to stay, he may end up leaving.

A number of clubs have declared their interest in signing him on a free transfer, and today another club has made their feelings clear about the Egyptian winger.

Besiktas president 'dreams' of Salah move

After approaching Salah on a number of different occasions, and presenting him with some extraordinarily expensive contracts, the Saudi Pro League is his current most likely destination, should he move away from Merseyside.

Funded by the country's Public Investment Fund, the Saudi clubs have utilised their wealth to attract big-name players to headline their competition.

Such names include Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema, alongside plenty of former Liverpool players, such as Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Fabinho.

The prospect of earning such a substantial amount of money towards the end of his career, while also living in an Arab country whose culture is likely to be more in line with his home country Egypt, has led to Salah being constantly rumoured of a move.

However, Turkish club Besiktas have reportedly also entered the race to secure his signature.

According to Masrawy, the club's president Huseyin Yucel has been incredibly impressed by Salah, citing his team's need for a new winger and the quality that Mo would bring to the side.

He said: "We need reinforcements in our squad, but moving in January will be very difficult. We may try to strengthen the squad through some loans, and we also need to make some changes in the squad.

"We need a right winger and a left winger, and my biggest wish is to sign Mohamed Salah to play in the right winger position. This is my personal dream."

While many clubs in Europe and across the world will be admiring Salah, with hopes of adding him to their teams, Besiktas are a particularly interesting prospect.

Lingering around the top four in the Turkish Super League, they may end up qualifying for the Champions League, or at least feature in some European competition next season, which Salah would miss out on if he went to Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the team is established in Europe, having won 16 league titles in their history. He would be competing at a lower level than Liverpool but at a substantially higher level than that in the Saudi Pro League.

For now, is all conjecture, and it is still a possibility that Liverpool could find an agreement with Salah to keep him at the club for a few more years, but if he does end up leaving, his list of options is growing by the day.
