Liverpool drop Andre interest as true release clause revealed

Liverpool are highly unlikely to sign Andre Trindade after Fluminense knocked back a €30m (£25.5m) proposal, Anfield Watch can confirm.

The midfielder was the subject of an offer from Liverpool but, as expected, it was turned down by the Brazilian club, who intend to keep Andre for the remainder of their Copa Libertadores pursuit.

We are told that it is improbable that the Reds will go back for the 22-year-old in January, when he would be available, while sources have informed us that his release clause is actually in advance of €80m (£68m), rather than the €40m (£34m) that has been suggested elsewhere.

Fluminense consider Andre as one of their star players and are refusing to let him leave this summer, as they eye Copa Libertadores glory for the first time in their history. They face Olimpia on 25 August in the first leg of the competition's quarter finals.

However, the Rio-based club are open to accepting a fee now with a view of letting their star youngster depart for a new club in the subsequent window.

Liverpool appear to be content with the purchase of Wataru Endo for the 'number six' role and will not to be making any new additions for that area of the pitch.

It’s clear that money is in the bank for Liverpool, following their failed move for Moises Caicedo, but whether they intend to push on with more signings for the midfield now or bide their time for the January window is another matter.

The defence is another area that needs strengthening, but other than their failed pursuit of Levi Colwill, who signed fresh terms with Chelsea, there have not been many other targets named for that position.

Liverpool have brought in Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig and Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, in a bid to bolster the centre of the park. However, the exits of Jordon Henderson and Fabinho arguably leaves them still understaffed for the midfield.

Liverpool face Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday. The Reds earned two Premier League wins over the Magpies last season.
