Liverpool defender suffers ANOTHER cruel injury blow
Liverpool’s ongoing issues at left-back have been well-documented.
Andy Robertson has been first-choice in the position since 2017 but last season he missed a lot of matches due to injury.

He entered this season once again as a starter but is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The 30-year-old hasn’t always been at his best for Arne Slot and has come under pressure for his position in the team from Kostas Tsimikas.
Liverpool have been linked with several left-backs as the hunt goes on for a long-term successor with Milos Kerkez, Antonee Robinson and Rayan Ait-Nouri among the Premier League names associated with an Anfield move.
The recent good form shown by Owen Beck on loan at Blackburn Rovers gives Liverpool a reason to believe that a solution could be sourced in-house with the defender now reportedly earmarked for a first-team role.
There is another promising full-back in the Reds’ ranks in Calum Scanlon, who can also feature further forward on the left-hand side of the midfield.
Calum Scanlon injured again
Signed back in 2020 from Birmingham City, the 19-year-old worked his way through the youth ranks all the way to the Liverpool first team. He made his debut under Jurgen Klopp in a 5-1 win against Toulouse in the Europa League last season.
Scanlon signed a new long-term contract in April 2024 and the decision was taken to loan him out to Championship side Millwall last summer.
Disaster struck when he suffered a stress fracture in his back, returning to the AXA Training Centre for treatment, and he has since re-commenced his loan deal at the Den.
Things began to look up for Scanlon, who made THREE second-tier starts in a row having recovered from injury, scoring last week in the 2-2 draw against Cardiff City. However, on the third start of that sequence, Scanlon suffered another unfortunate injury blow.
He lasted only 17 minutes of Millwall’s 1-0 win over Luton on Saturday with manager Alex Neil confirming that the injury - as well as the one suffered by goalkeeper Lukas Jensen - wasn’t initially promising.
“They don’t look good,” Neil said according to Southwark News. “Calum’s had to come off. I think it’s a hamstring injury. We need to get it scanned and get the extent of it."
It’s a bitter blow for Scanlon, who had begun to establish himself in the team. Let’s hope it’s not too bad and he can be back in action sooner rather than later.
