Liverpool transfers: Journalist claims Reds SUBMIT bid for Argentina star
After securing the signing of Federico Chiesa yesterday, Liverpool are looking to make another dramatic swoop late in the window.
Aside from securing the services of Giorgi Mamardashvili for next summer, Chiesa remains the only first-team signing of this transfer window, despite the notable overtures when it came to a defensive midfielder and reinforcements in the centre of the back line.
However, after being snubbed by Martin Zubimendi and afterwards being linked with a whole host of holding midfielders, the Reds may have found another suitable choice for the problematic no.6 role.

Argentine international Alan Varela has only been at Porto for a year, after being signed from Boca Juniors for a reported €11m. Now it would appear Varela could be on the move again, after a report from journalist Luis Fregossi suggested that Liverpool have submitted a formal offer to the Portuguese club after having monitored Varela since April.
Liverpool submit Alan Varela offer
Whilst highly rated, there have been few concrete stories linking Varela with a move away from Porto this summer, and this might be due to the fact that the 23 year-old is only one year into a five-year contract.
It’s no secret that Liverpool have been actively chasing a defensive midfielder all summer, and Varela would be a good signing, albeit perhaps more one for the future than as someone who could fit straight into Arne Slot’s best line-up.
Therefore whilst Varela is a talented player in his position, it’s unlikely that the Reds will conclude a last minute deal for him given that it is deadline day and the consensus is that if Liverpool are looking to bring in a defensive midfielder, it would have to be someone who would improve the team immediately rather than simply bolstering the ranks.
