Darwin Nunez breaks unwanted Premier League record in only 52 MINUTES against Man City
Darwin Nunez was flagged offside an astonishing six times during Liverpool’s crucial top-of-the-table Premier League match against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
From one such first-half offside call Nunez crossed for Luis Diaz, who finished easily from close range but that strike was justifiably ruled out.
By contrast, the man leading the attack at the other end, Erling Haaland, has been flagged offside only ONCE throughout the entire Premier League season to this point.
While Nunez’s improvement in front of goal in recent weeks has been a huge boon to Jurgen Klopp’s side, he still possesses the tendency to thwart his own team’s attacks by going too early.
Darwin equals unwanted record
Nunez’s five first-half offside calls matched the Premier League record for offsides in any one game this season; Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga was called back five times against Tottenham in December.
And he broke the record while attempting to latch onto a through ball just after the break as Man City goalkeeper Ederson struggled with injury.
It took Darwin only 39 minutes against City to match Elanga’s record and just a few minutes after half time to break it.
In total Nunez has now been called offside 26 times this season in the Premier League, the most of any player. By contrast, Manchester City’s entire squad has been called offside only 29 times, according to Squawka.
