Darwin Nunez has revealed how Jurgen Klopp reacted in the dressing room to chants directed at the Liverpool player.

Darwin Nunez was one of the most talked-about players of last season. Sometimes that was good, sometimes that was bad.

For opposition fans, it was typically bad - they'd chant all sorts at him, and usually that he was an inferior version of former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll. Not that Nunez actually knows what they're saying when they do that.

The chanting was most notable against Nottingham Forest, who was loud with the chant throughout. Nunez, however, silenced them all by scoring a stoppage-time winner for Liverpool.

And he's now revealed how Jurgen Klopp reacted to the chants in the dressing room after the game. It seems the Liverpool boss wasn't exactly thrilled with them.

"In that game, Nottingham fans were singing to me," Nunez told ESPN. "But I didn't understand anything, thank goodness.

"I ended up scoring the winning goal, and then the coach in the locker room said 'f*** them'."

Darwin Nunez next season

It seems like Nunez will remain at Liverpool next season, though he has been linked with a move away. It promises to be an interesting campaign for him.

Because even if this one ended with poor form, no one should underestimate just how much the Uruguayan brought this season. Even just in the Premier League, Nunez ended with 11 goals and eight assists, a stark improvement in both areas over his debut season.

If he can improve again, suddenly Nunez will look like one of the most productive strikers on the planet. Of course, that entirely depends on how well he works with Arne Slot.

But if things work out, fans will have to change their chants - that much is certain. Nunez already provides so much for Liverpool when he's at his best. Really, making it more consistent is the next major step.
