Curtis Jones WARNS Man City in social media ‘statement’
Curtis Jones probably thought the birth of his child was the best thing that was going to happen to him this week.
And it definitely was. But a man of the match performance against Chelsea is a close second.
Jones was everywhere at Anfield on Sunday, filling in on the inside-left of midfield for Alexis Mac Allister.

And he paid tribute to his daughter after scoring Liverpool’s winner, doing a thumb-sucking motion and pointing up to the stands.
Afterwards, Jones took to social media to voice his pleasure.
‘Statement!” his tweet read, “More to come, onto the next.” accompanied by four pictures of himself in action.
And ‘statement’ is exactly what Liverpool - and Jones’ - performance was on Sunday. Liverpool themselves adopted a style we have rarely seen from them over the past decade, sitting deep to absorb pressure and then looking to build attacks at a fast pace through the attacking transition.
That’s a statement to fellow title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal. Liverpool are here to win and even an in-form Chelsea couldn’t prevent them getting what they want.
Curtis Jones makes starting XI push
And Jones himself well and truly put his name on Arne Slot’s radar, particularly with Alexis Mac Allister suffering through injury woes and Dominik Szoboszlai’s relatively lacklustre performances of late.
Jones had a non-defender high 51 touches, producing a team-second 3 shot creating actions and winning the penalty for Mo Salah’s opener (as well as having a second penalty chalked off in dubious circumstances).
The midfielder also had the second-highest pass completion percentage in the team, a team-high amount of take ons and a team-second tackle & interception rate.
The statistics themselves point to a complete performance exactly when Liverpool needed it. Their play style didn’t suit what we have seen from Ryan Gravenberch this season - who still registered a 7.1 on FotMob - and Szoboszlai was wasteful on the ball.
With a crucial run of games coming up, including Arsenal, Brighton, and Aston Villa in the league, and Leipzig and Leverkusen in the Champions League, Jones will undoubtedly be called upon to perform again.
And if yesterday is anything to go by he might be in the starting XI sooner rather than later.
