As the international break trundles on, Liverpool fans are eager for the return of club football next weekend.

Arne Slot’s men have started superbly sitting 2nd in the league with three wins from three. With the momentum we had after demolishing Manchester United 3-0, the national period came at an unwelcome time.

But with Nottingham Forest at Anfield next Saturday looming, Slot has been handed a positive update regarding the fitness of one midfielder.

Curtis Jones' encouraging injury update for Arne Slot

When the Reds take on Forest, Arne will be hoping for a fully fit squad with minimal issues. The news of Alexis Mac Allister’s potential injury against Chile and Harvey Elliott’s return to Liverpool for medical assessments will be harsh news to Slot’s ears and will affect the look of the squad.

However, it looks as if the return of Curtis Jones is on the horizon.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that the midfielder is "winning the battle" to be fit for the return of the Premier League.

Jones has missed the last two games for Liverpool with a minor injury. The Reds number 17 has been rehabbing the problem in training and is expected to be pronounced fit for the clash on the 14th September.

With Jones back in the squad and Alexis’ involvement looking in doubt, Slot may aim to utilise Curtis in the midfield three, with Ryan Gravenberch continuing in the deeper position and Dominik Szoboszlai partnering him.

Whatever role he plays, fans will be ecstatic to see Curtis back after putting in some fantastic performances last season. During that campaign, Klopp described the midfielder as 'incredibly important' to the Reds.

“Curtis was for us incredibly important,” Klopp said. “He set the tone. He played an outstanding season until he got injured. He looks outstanding in training, but let’s see how we can get him really there.

Looking at Liverpool's opponents, Forest have also stared well, winning one and drawing two in their opening games. Liverpool can not underestimate their threat especially on the attack with striker Chris Wood bagging two goals already this season.
