So while it may seem as though nothing is going on in the recruitment department, the club may already have a few different options ready to trigger when the time is right.

One second you can be cursing the ownership for a lack of investment, and the next you can be reading reports of an agreement with the player, watching compilations of his best work, and admiring all the pictures of him wearing the home kit on social media.

If the club know what they want, then they will put all their effort into making sure it happens and a move very similar to Alexis Mac Allister's transfer back in 2023 could be in the offing.

Liverpool have a Murillo replacement waiting in the wings

The club had been looking at bringing in a few defenders, one being a centre-back to replace Joel Matip who left the club last season, and potentially another centre-back in case Virgil Van Dijk's contract saga turns negative.

In addition, Liverpool have a left-back on their shopping list and a right-back could be required if Trent Alexander-Arnold moves forward with a highly-rumoured move to Real Madrid.

As such, the Reds were assessing Nottingham Forest's Murillo at the start of the season, although his price soon skyrocketed as The Tricky Trees outlined their plan for the season, identifying the centre-back as an integral asset in their team.

Subsequently, the links between Liverpool and Forest came back this winter as a result of the team's remarkably successful season so far, and he went on to sign a new long-term deal with the club, leaving Liverpool back at step one.

However, another player with potential has joined the Reds' shortlist after excelling this season and a relatively straightforward way of securing his services has recently been revealed.

Dean Huijsen has a release clause

Liverpool's pursuit of Alexis Mac Allister was a clinic in player recruitment.

The World Cup winner had a £35m release clause in his contract with Brighton and as such, Liverpool were able to trigger it and bring the Argentinian to Merseyside with little fuss whatsoever.

It was the type of move that fans have become fascinated by - knowing what you want and getting the deal done before it gets complicated and turns into a saga where the Reds could easily miss out on a great opportunity.

Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen has been spectacular in defence for the Cherries as they sit on an 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old Spaniard was rushed into the side after they were ravished by injuries, but he has taken to his task with poise and focus, leading the line and during up the defence.

While he has been in the side, Bournemouth have delivered five clean sheets and delivered standout performances in recent weeks - including a 4-1 win over Newcastle at St James' Park and a 5-0 dispatching of high-flying Nottingham Forest yesterday at home.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, he is being eyed up by a number of clubs for a move away this summer and he has a release clause that is set to become available very soon.

Despite facing an array of competition for such a talented young defender, Liverpool could come in and snatch him away from their rivals if they play their cards right, just like they did with Mac Allister a couple of years ago - who is regarded as one of the best bargains in world football in recent years.
