Liverpool could make millions from Jordan Henderson transfer

Liverpool could receive a healthy cash windfall should Jordan Henderson make a Premier League return this month.

The former Reds skipper joined up with Steven Gerrard at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in the summer for an initial £12m fee - putting pen to paper on a reported £700,000-per-week deal.

However, the move hasn't exactly gone to plan, with Henderson's side having gone over two months without registering a win.

His struggles to adapt to life in the Middle East have prompted him to seek a move back to the Premier League - something which could hand his former employers a sizeable financial boost.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool will take a 'healthy' sell-on percentage should Henderson be sold in January.

However, Henderson will do well to earn a move away, with Ettifaq insistent that they will not sell their captain for anything short of an 'incredible offer'.

The Saudi outfit will entertain loan offers for Henderson - but potential suitors would be forced to cover 100% of the midfielder's wages, which are reflective of a top-end Premier League salary.

This means that should Englishman move back to his home country, he would likely have to accept a significant pay cut to make any deal work.

Fellow former Reds star Roberto Firmino is reportedly in a similar to position to Henderson - the key difference being that his club, Al-Ahli, are very open to an exit.

To make things more difficult for Henderson, he will also reportedly stare down the barrel of a mammoth tax bill should he cut his Saudi stay short this month.

This is according to the Mirror, who write that the tax-free element of his Ettifaq contract only kicks in if he honours the first two years of the deal.

As such, he'd be forced to pay £7m if he returns to the Premier League in this transfer window, not more than six months after upping sticks to the Middle East.
