Liverpool could be pulled into a situation developing around Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. Jurgen Klopp is a fan.

This comes from Christian Falk. He wrote in his Daily Briefing that Bayern Munich could sanction the departure of Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich is a little out of favour for both club and country, with neither Julian Nagelsmann nor Thomas Tuchel viewing him as a proper holding midfielder. It could mean that the player moves on, with his contract expiring in 2025.

“It cannot be ruled out that FC Bayern and Kimmich part ways,” writes Falk.

“His contract only runs until 2025. Like Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel has also questioned the player. Both coaches do not see Kimmich as a “holding Six”.

While his stature in Germany might not quite be what it was, there are certainly clubs lining up to sign him. Falk writes that Barcelona and Manchester City would be in the mix - and also mentioned Jurgen Klopp.

“FC Barcelona is very interested in Kimmich,” he says. ”If he comes onto the market next summer, some clubs in the Premier League will also look at him. Pep Guardiola is considered a big fan of Kimmich after having initially discovered and promoted him in Munich. The City coach appreciates Kimmich’s versatility as he can play in many positions.

“But Jurgen Klopp also knows Kimmich’s strengths, which would suit Liverpool FC well. The poker for Kimmich could soon be open.”

Liverpool want an elite defensive midfielder, while Klopp is also a massive fan of versatile players. Kimmich fits the bill - in fact, it would be quite shocking if the Reds didn't try and get involved in any transfer race.

If Kimmich does want a move, it will happen next year. There's little to no chance that Bayern would let him run his contract down and leave on a free in 2025. He could well be available at a reduced price - though, that could change if enough major clubs want him.
